Mercia: First Minister’s Maiden Speech

It is a great honour to be elected today to the Mercian Parliament House, and a greater honour still to serve as First Minister of Mercia, at the helm of an NLP majority. I would like to thank my colleagues in the NLP for a very successful campaign, and congratulate my 10 fellow parliamentarians.

My government will press ahead immediately with the plans we put to the Mercian electorate, plans they have shown they wholeheartedly agree with. We will begin with organising the parliament into an active forum for legislative debate. With the consensus of all parties, we will agree on regular meeting times for parliament and a comprehensive legislative agenda. We will also seek the support of the parliament to make the Convenor of the Crossbench our Parliament’s speaker, as I see no reason to have two individuals performing the same, albeit very important, roles.

Last year saw the escalation and subsequent resolution of the New Israel issue. I am very satisfied with progress in New Israel to date, and reward for this progress must be duly appreciated. New Israel will cease to be a Territorial Concession, with Parliament’s consent, and it will become an independent state. Healthy diplomatic relations will be pursued with them, as with other nations, through bilateral agreements. I see this as the beginning of the implementation of the NLP’s progressive foreign policy agenda.

Lastly, I will be appointing my new cabinet in the coming hours and days, so we can start working immediately to make Mercia a better place, a truly prosperous micronation. I’d like to thank the Mercian people again for making the right decision, and voting in this NLP majority.

nb – Since making this speech, Baron-First Minister Ó Cathail has appointed the following Cabinet:
Minister of Culture, Sport & Media – Marquis Cassidy of the Crossbench
Minister of Foreign Affairs – His Lordship Richard I of the National Liberal Party

Minister of Internal Affairs & Defence – Count Lawton of the National Liberal Party
Minister of Charity & Commerce – Baron Billbrough of the National Liberal Party

The Lord Spiritual is yet to appoint a Synod Delegate to the Cabinet.
