Regional Dominion of Burnham: Supreme Soviet Gorsedh Dissolved! General Election to follow!

The Theodorist Regional Dominion of Burnham and its Land has, until today, been organised, legislated by and run by the Supreme Soviet Gorsedh (‘Gorsedh’ being a Cornish word for ‘Assembly’), a body of prominent Burnhamite and Wuertige Empire politicians that have run Burnham on the behalf of its Proletariat. However, in the last motion proposed in the Gorsedh by Basileus Justinian I of the Dominion on the evening of November 18th, and passed today on November 19th, the Supreme Soviet has been dissolved, and Burnham will now be legislated for by its People’s Commons; a body of political parties and independent candidates that originally served to advise the Supreme Soviet Gorsedh.

An excerpt of the ‘Cultural Reformation’ motion can be read here:
“This motion contains the following laws:
1. The Supreme Soviet Gorsedh would be disestablished 24 hours after this motion is passed, with the People’s Commons taking the position of primary legislative body in Burnham.

This motion also contains the following Constitutional Amendments:
1. (Unattached Amendment 1) The Supreme Soviet Gorsedh shall be disestablished, and Article 27 of the Constitution of the Theodorist Regional Dominion of Burnham shall be removed, and any Amendments attached to Article 27 shall be redacted. Any references to the Supreme Soviet Gorsedh in the rest of the Constitution shall be edited to refer to the People’s Commons.”

The passed motion also called on Burnhamite opposition parties, particularly the Jacobite Party which, formed by Edward Jacobs (President of the Ashukov Federation) over a month ago, to ready themselves for a General Election in early December 2013. The Jacobite Party was specifically mentioned in the motion, as the party hadn’t yet devised a party constitution, nor had it even come up with an official political ideology for the party. The motion demanded that the party have a manifesto and a party constitution prepared by December 3rd 2013, when the General Election will be held, under pain of party dissolution.

The heavy-handedness of this final motion by the now-dissolved Supreme Soviet Gorsedh has sent shockwaves throughout the Burnhamite political scene. The Jacobite Party officially dissolved at 18:38 GMT on the 19th November, followed by the Green Party’s voluntary dissolution at 21:03 GMT. Green Party leader Paco Velaszquez will be running as an Independent Candidate in the General Election. This leaves the People’s Commons in Burnham looking like the following:
Theodorist Worker’s Party of Burnham – 5 members
Trevorlutionist Party – 1 member
3 separate Independent Candidates.

The General Election in Burnham will begin on December 3rd, and voting stations will close on December 10th, with the majority party/candidate being declared alongside the inauguration of the new General Secretary on December 11th.
